12 years of Red Chillies Entertainment’s VFX
Recently red Chillies Entertainment released a video on YouTube which celebrated the VFX it had used over the decade and more in their films. The video consisted of some of the gravest reality checks which one couldn’t have thought of while watching these incredible scenes in the films.
A little about Red Chillies Entertainment
Red Chillies is a production company started by the Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan. This company has made over fifty films and also invests in a large number of other sectors. It is one of the stakeholders of Kolkata Knight Riders and also has acquired rights of many old films for remake purposes. The company is not famous just because it’s owned by Shah Rukh Khan but also because it has been so consistent in producing films over the years. Ever since its inception in 2003, it has continuously made new films and created blockbuster hits. Gauri Khan is the co-founder and joint owner of this venture.
The VFX story of this company
Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. has a visual effects studio of its own known as Red Chillies VFX which was set up in 2005. The division has the largest manpower among the group companies with strength of over 130 VFX artists. They do not outsource work t other studios and neither do they rely on someone else for doing their scenes or correcting their images. In addition to their own productions, the visual effects team’s involved with many major Bollywood movies like Chak De! India, Krrish 3, Don: The Chase Begins Again, Dostana and etc. This visual effects team has not only won recognition in India but also all across the world. The list of awards is long. A lot of companies recognize this as the best CGI team in the country. You wouldn’t believe this but many students who have completed VFX courses in Kolkata has also got the opportunity to work in here.
Let us take a look at some of the achievement won by this team and the studio as a whole.
In 2006, Don: The Chase Begins won European award for The Best Special Effects. Next year with a superb hit on box office, Om Shanti Om won best visual effects from almost all the major award functions hosted by different channels. A couple years later, Ra.One swept all major awards in Bollywood for visual effects, including a National Film Award and Filmfare Award for Best Special Effects too.
What makes their work so special?
Other than the star image associated with this firm, they have the best possible work ethic one could have. It continuously believes in evolving and adding relatively new content to their CGI. If you take a look at the CGI that’s induced in films almost ten years back and if you take a look at the latest films like Fan; there would be a visible difference. This is where it surpasses the legacy of other studios in the market.
Change is the only constant and no one has followed it more religiously than Red Chillies. With world-class visual effects that people couldn’t guess if any manipulation was even done.
The latest upcoming release Zero where Shah Rukh Khan gets shown shorter than his own height is completely a work of CGI and manipulation. Now that is a remarkable example of how post-production works. With over 12 years of this team and the VFX department, the company has set bars and records for all the different animation and VFX aspiring individuals in the country. This is definitely an inspiration for all the students and all the production studios as well.
